Course Overview

This model course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities for ship’s security as defined in STCW A-VI/6 and the ISPS Code, and in particular the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a ship.

Who Should Attend

Ship’s officers who have been, or are likely to be, appointed as Ship Security Officers under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code

Course Outline

  • Module One: Introduction
  • Module Two: Maintain and Supervise the Implementation of a Ship Security Plan
  • Module Three: Assess Security Risk, Threat and Vulnerability
  • Module Four: Undertake Regular Inspections of the Ship to ensure that Appropriate Security Measures are Implemented and Maintained
  • Module Five: Ensure that Security Equipment and Systems, if any, are Properly Operated, Tested and Calibrated Maritime security & training methods
  • Module Six: Encourage Security Awareness and Vigilance
  • Module Seven: BMP4 (Best Management Practices for Protection against Somalia Based Piracy)
