| • Appreciation of the basic body structure and its functions |
| • Assessment of the needs of casualties and threats to their own safety |
| • Understanding of immediate measures to be taken in cases of emergencies including the |
| ability to: |
| • Position the casualty |
| • Apply resuscitation techniques |
| • Control bleeding |
| • Apply appropriate measures of basic shock management |
| • Apply appropriate measures in the event of burns and scalds, including electrical |
| and chemical burns |
| • Apply rescue and transport of a casualty techniques |
| • Improvise bandages and use materials in an emergency kit |
| • Knowledge of basic fracture immobilization techniques |
